Welcome to Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve & Lodge Tandayapa , Ecuador

Bellavista is a dream come true, not just for us, but for every nature lover and bird-watcher whose imagination is stimulated by the idea of a Cloud Forest. Started by a Colombo - British couple, Gloria and Richard, in 1991, what was initially a 55 hectare reserve has now become a certified ecolodge with a 700 hectare private reserve, the land owned by Gloria and Richard and a handful of like-minded conservationists. For anyone who seeks to immerse him or her self in its mysteries, soak in its vast views, anyone who wants to discover its rare and endemic birds, orchids and other species, anyone who wants to discover true peace and wild places, anyone who loves forests, there are few places like it so easily accessible!!.

Bromeliads and orchids, hummingbirds and tanagers, toucans and antpittas, all view for our attention, and could keep any dedicated naturalist enthused for a lifetime of observation. Add to that the sense of adventure hiking the forest trails, or deep adventure hiking up streams to reach hidden waterfalls……and you have the ingredients for a travel experience about which famed photographer Tui De Roy has said …… I will return to Bellavista again and again, because I know that here I will always find sheer magic….. .

Less than 1 hour 45 minutes from the heart of Quito city, or 1 hour from the Mitad Del Mundo Equator monument. Bellavista is a private reserve of 700 hectares, at the top of the famed Tandayapa Valley, near Mindo, in an area that has won the highest 24 hour bird count for several years in a row in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count for the Americas. By visiting Bellavista you help us and everyone to protect this habitat, hopefully for ever...

I had a wonderful three night stay at Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve! My room was beautifully decorated, looking directly out into the trees so that I was able to enjoy the bird life right from the comfort of my bed. The food in the restaurant was delicious and plentiful, as well. But the very best and memorable thing about Bellavista was my bird guide. This clever young man is a true expert! In a short 5 hours, he helped me to add no less than 48 new species to my life list! I told him what I wanted to see, and he took me to the right spots to see them. That’s almost 10 birds per hour!
